Purpose of implant verification Jig

And why it is necessary.

As all dentists know, the implant (fixture) placed inside the patient’s mouth needs a head– the abutment – in order to place and secure the dental restoration.

How can an implant abutment made outside the patient’s mouth be placed accurately into the implant fixture inside the mouth? Correctly delivering an implant requires the dentist to find the correct angle and position, and is a delicate process that takes a great amount of time, effort, and accuracy.

Verification Jig can be your solution.

Hexagon Shaped Abutments

With the latest technology, the connecting holes between abutments and implant systems are hexagonal, meaning that there are six possible angles to place an abutment into the implant (fixture), and only one angle that leads to the right passage.

In addition to finding the one correct angle out of the six choices, implant abutments can vary in size and shape– and are TINY! When these conditions meet the bone graft, the space available, and the number of restorations being performed, the difficulty of the implant delivery can increase significantly. We believe all implant restorations need a custom abutment in order to increase the quality of the work and guarantee satisfaction from the patients.

Below are six photos showing the six different angles that one implant abutment can be placed at. Finding “the one” is tedious and time consuming for both the doctor and the patient

Here is an example of a zirconia crown being placed on a correctly positioned abutment.

And it comes down to this: How can we avoid having to test out all of the angles before finding the correct one?

Answer: a verification jig.

As defined by the International Congress of Oral Implantologist (ICOI):

“A verification jig mimics the fit of the final restoration framework so the model accuracy can be verified to confirm that the end restoration fits perfectly.”

The look of a verification jig varies based on the technician who crafts it, however the mechanism behind its structure and functionality remains the same. The only difference may be the practicality from dentist to dentist.

The cute looking pink Jig shown below in the photo is the Maestro Art style Verification jig, which most doctors prefer over other designs due to its simplicity and user-friendly design.

The Maestro Art Verification Jig comes attached with little wings with holes, either on both sides or one side depending on the restoration type. These wings are assigned to precisely be set on the highest spot of the adjacent teeth, and help place the jig in the correct position– minimizing tilting or shaking that alters the passage of the abutment and screw. We provide tooth numbers on the jig to ensure that each segment is placed on the proper teeth, facing the correct way.

In summary: Implant verification jig serves to provide the dentist with an easy and effective way of placing our custom abutments into the patient.

Happy patient, happy dentist. Happy dentist, happy lab.
